Shaving

The first week Zach moved into my house I remembered him saying something about wanting to learn how to shave. I told him I had a shaver with detachable razors and that he could have one to use if he wanted. He seemed a little apprehensive with the idea (he had never shaved before), so he ended up paying 20 Kwacha to shave a barber shave his face. Now, his money has run out and his facial hair is back. So last Monday he decided that he needed a shave and he was the one that was going to do it. I figured I could use a shave as well, so I set everything up and gave him a demonstration. Then I gave him his own razor and told him to “have at it” while I started to write some class notes. About 20 minutes passed by and I hadn’t heard anything from the back steps, which meant that he was still shaving. I yelled to ask if everything was going well and I got a “hahah, yeah” in return. A few minutes later he came strolling around the corner and he wanted an inspection of his first shave. I obliged and moved in for a closer look: mustache-shaved, beard- shaved, sole patch (which didn’t exist, but if it did it would have been…)- shaved, chin strap- shaved, eyebrows- shaved… Wait... Eyebrows? Shaved? Hold the phone!!! NO WAY. I must have missed something….nope, eyebrows kulibe, eyebrows not present. He asked how he did for his first time shaving. All I could muster was, “well, you certainly got it all.” I asked what inspired him to shave his eyebrows and he said that they were “bad” because they got in he eyes. I tried to remember if he had ridiculously long eyebrows before, but nothing unusual came to mind. I guess eyebrows are one of those features that get pushed under the rug…That is until they go missing. Now I can’t seem to look at anything but his missing eyebrows. I’m counting the days until they grow back.
